May 9th is Walk in Their Sneakers day! If you recall, our Police officers laced up and walked our students to school. This time the officers will be starting off at Clair Creek Blvd and Bennington Gate. Please meet the officers at 8:30 AM. Please keep an eye out and join the group as they pass. Speaking of walking to school, THANK YOU!! to all our families who walk to school, despite the weather! We appreciate fewer cars congesting the drop off and pick up area. Please take the time to review walking routes and rules with your child. We would love it if students walked to school every day! If your child bikes or scooters to school don’t forget to bring along a lock. Our new bike racks are such a treat to use. Safety is always a concern, students and parents are expected to walk their bike on school property.
Playground – please know that our playground has not been inspected. Once the inspection is complete, we will give the all-clear. The playground is always closed in the morning before school (for so many good reasons). The playground is also closed after-school from 3:30-3:45, as students are to head straight home. Parents who are directly supervising their children are always welcome to stay and play. If staying, it is very helpful if you steer clear of the playground for a few minutes so that the duty teacher can determine who should be heading home and who has an adult. Thanks so much for your cooperation. It is really important for us to get students to where they are intended to be at the end of the day.
Twitter – we are a busy school, with many activities happening throughout the day. On Monday, we tweet out a picture of the white board in the front hall. You do not need a Twitter account to see our tweets. Simply check out our website and you will see the Twitter feed along the left of the page.
School Council – A vibrant group attended the School Council meeting on April 18th. Our next and last meeting of the year is on Wednesday, May 16th. We hope you are able to join us as we wind up this year and plan for next year.
Please see the agenda here: Mary Johnston School Council Minutes April 18
Mulch – we are looking for A LOT of mulch for the grove area at the front of the school. The city often has free mulch that can be picked up with a small trailer. If you have a trailer and are able to pick up a load of mulch, call us and let us know!! We would LOVE to have some. Plan B is to purchase a dump-truck full, costing up to $2000… yikes!
Volunteers – we LOVE our volunteers and would like to celebrate each one! Please save the date: Thursday, May 17th (time to be determined, usually in the morning before school).
