It is with very heavy hearts that the Mary Johnston Learning Community mourns the passing of Ms. Nicole Morgan on November 12, 2021, after a very brief, intense battle with cancer. Ms. Morgan was part of the MJPS Staff family two years ago, working as our Child & Youth Worker. Ms. Morgan left MJPS last year to work with students at Centennial-Waterloo before being rehired back again to the MJPS Team for this present year. Unfortunately, Ms. Morgan fell suddenly ill this past August and was not able to return to our school.

Students will remember Ms. Morgan’s infectious laugh, her warm, caring personality, and her deep concern and kindness toward them as they learned alongside her on a daily basis during her time here at MJPS. Ms. Morgan was an extremely active and dynamic person whose impact was deeply meaningful, whether she was interacting with students in sports, small group supports, or through individual conversations. Ms. Morgan was the epitome of an inclusive, thoughtful Educator to whom students and staff automatically gravitated. She will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with Nicole’s family in this time of grief: Mom and Dad, Rowena & Fred, sister Roxanne, older brother Leon, and Nicole’s twin brother Frederick.

Along with the MJPS Staff Team, members of the Board’s Critical Events Response Team have been consulted and stand ready to support any person in need of assistance.

In honour of Ms. Morgan, the flags at both Mary Johnston and the Waterloo Region District School Board Education Centre will be flown at half mast this week.

Please check in with your child in the days to come. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me via email.

With kind regards,

Tim Pugh ~ Principal @ MJPS
