October has arrived with crispy cool mornings! Thank you for having your child dress in layers. If you are missing clothing, our lost and found is already full; come check it out. Everyone here at MJ wishes our families a restful and fun up-coming Thanksgiving weekend. We are so thankful and grateful to be part of such a wonderful community. Remember that there is no school on Monday, Oct.9th.

Terry Fox Run – October 13th. A big highlight has been the lead up to the Terry Fox Run. We are so proud of our community! With a last little push, students met their goal of $4000!! Now the FUN begins.  Students are looking forward to finding out who is going to shave their head, kiss a fish or get a pie in the face!! Oct. 13th is the day we will do the Terry Fox run and celebrate this fantastic accomplishment.  Stay tuned for what is to be a BIG celebration.

Mary Johnston Memorial Food Bank Fun Run – Wednesday, Oct 18 The weather did not cooperate for our Fun Run this week; we have postponed until Oct. 18th. Mme McManus’ class has effectively challenged students to bring in food items for the Food Bank. These amazing and adorable grade 2 students have been on the announcements, encouraging donations. Our pile is enormous! Another fantastic demonstration of the generosity of our community! We continue to seek out volunteers for this event. Please call the school and let Mrs. Kieswetter know if you are able to help – 3:30-5pm

QSP Magazine Fundraising – Our kick off assembly was held today  at noon. It is a favourite fundraiser as it encourages reading! The campaign will run Oct. 5-18. Thanksgiving is an excellent time to sell subscriptions to family. Fundraising helps us to add items such as equipment for the gym, PALS outdoor equipment, technology and more. Fundraising envelopes will be sent home today. Please know that school fundraising is always optional for families.

Student Safety – Safety is always our top priority. We thank you for respecting our ‘no dogs on school property’, and ‘do not park in the bus zone or parking lot’ policies. There have been a few days where the bus zone has been completely car free! Thank you, as this has been an on-going issue for many years.
