Moveathon A HUGE THANK YOU, goes out to our school community. After all bills were paid, the profit from our Moveathon was $5,862.06! We have already purchased and received the ball cages and mats for the gym. We are in the process of ordering new bike racks for our bikes.

Shhhhhh…. our beloved Custodian, Mr. Vasileski will be leaving soon to be the head custodian at Groh P.S. We postponed our goodbye as his time here has been extended for 1-2 weeks. We will keep you posted on another ‘dress in blue’ day and do our special good-bye when the time is closer.

Healthy Relationships – Apologies – From “Be a Mentor” chapter:

We learn from making mistakes. Ask your children what can be learned from a mistake that has been made. Try to focus on the learning – not the mistake. Learning from mistakes helps us to improve ourselves and our relationships. Try to help your child understand why the mistake happened and how it could be avoided in the future.

Apologies are important for young children and youth to learn. Helping young people focus on the apology can keep them from continuing to justify their mistake. Children can learn about heartfelt apologies and practise at home. Parents are powerful role models for children and youth.

MJ parent says: Teach your children the important components of an apology.  The two most important are an acknowledgment of responsibility (eg I was wrong) and an offer of repair (eg I will fix the problem). Also teach children to use eye contact and to show sincerity when the apology is face to face.  You can read about the other components of an apology here: http://www.today.com/health/six-components-perfect-apology-t86211
