Dear Mary Johnston Parents:

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all parents and students a very happy, healthy and safe summer holiday.  I have been extremely proud of the students and staff at Mary Johnston Public School this year.  I have also been very appreciative of the support that you, the parents, have given to the staff.

To the grade six graduates, best wishes for a successful senior school career as you enter the next phase of your studies.  It is our hope that you leave here with many fond memories as you begin to create new memories on your educational journey.  It will be an exciting time in your life filled with many splendid opportunities.  Seize those opportunities and expand them to the best of your ability.  I know that you will all find your niche.

To those students who are returning to Mary Johnston Public School next year, we hope to see you become involved in many activities as you continue your studies.  We look forward to seeing you again in September.

To those students who are coming for the first time to Mary Johnston Public School next year, you are entering a school that we believe is the best in Waterloo Region.  We ask that you, too, become involved at school and try the very best that you can in all academic and social activities.

We will also be saying good bye to some of our staff members.  We would like to wish all the best to Tanya Perkins (FDK), Robyn Camilleri (FDK), Catherine Richmond (Grade 2FI), Ashley Martin (DECE), Heather Runstedler (DECE), Amy Nippard (EA), Debbie Mitchell (EA) and Nikki McClay (EA) who will be moving on to new schools next year.  We want to thank Megan Sanderson (FDK) who has been with us since the end of October and to Trevor Francis who will be going to teacher’s college in the Fall.

In preparation for September, we have compiled a shopping list of materials that you may wish to purchase for your child.  The school provides basic supplies such as notebooks, pencils and erasers, but we recognize there are many sales in stores during the month of August and some parents like to take advantage of those sales to purchase more personalized items.

  •  Running Shoes for inside/gym (white soles)
  • Labelled gym clothes
  • Pencil case
  • Pencils, eraser, markers and ruler
  • Glue sticks
  • Crayons (grade 1 wax, 2-6 pencil crayons)
  • Pens are required for Junior students (4-6)
  • 1 box of Kleenex Tissues
  • Back pack or school bag

Again, have a happy, safe and restful summer holiday.

Yours truly,

Helmut Tinnes, Principal
