The Board is always reviewing policies and procedures and we have just received a directive from the Board regarding skating activities. All staff and students must wear a CSA approved helmet.
Effective immediately, all students and staff involved in skating activities during school and Board-related events are required to wear Canadian Standards Association (CSA)-approved head protection while on the ice for skating activities.
CSA-approved hockey-styled helmets bearing the CSA certification or identification are required. Bicycle helmets are not permitted for skating activities as they are not designed and tested for this purpose.
We understand that this requirement will cause some challenges, however this new requirement is intended to ensure consistent health and safety practices for all students and staff.
It is our intent to continue to offer the skating program to students for the remainder of dates that we have booked with the city. However, if we find that there are too few students who have CSA-approved hockey helmets, then we will cancel the skating program.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Tinnes at the school.
