Welcome to Mary Johnston’s School Council

Mary Johnston has a wonderful group of parents who come together to discuss and plan how families can best support to our school.  We would like to extend a special invitation to all of the parents, new to Mary Johnston P.S., to consider participating in School Council meetings. We are always looking for people with new and fresh ideas that can help us to build both our diversity and our capacity as we work to support the learning environment of our school.

What is the role of a school council?

A school council is an advisory body that functions within the parameters of the Ministry of Education and WRDSB Board Policy to support the local school. School councils work collaboratively with and in support of professional educators as they strive to enhance ongoing student achievement and success. The ultimate responsibility for the administration, management, safety, and security of day-to-day, site-based operations rests with the Principal.

Who can participate?

All parents and community members are welcome to attend our school council meetings. Any parents are eligible to become voting members and can run for executive positions on Council if they are interested. Elections for executive positions and voting members are held in September-October of each school year and follow a clear process.

When does School Council meet?

Meetings are scheduled monthly.  School Council meetings typically begin @ 6:30pm and are one-hour in length.

If you are interested in participating or want more information, please email School Office.

Thank you.
